If Your Site Is Not Mobile-Friendly – You Are Missing Out!

When I first started doing website design, flip phones were the newest thing and AOL was still a major player in internet access. My how times have changed. In today’s growing mobile-friendly world, I believe the days of fancy website flash animations and tons of pages of information are gone. People want to find information quickly by simply scrolling on a site or within 2-3 clicks, and if your site is not mobile-friendly you can expect over 50% of your traffic to probably bounce of your site as soon as they get there. Why such a high percentage? Because in July 2015 smartphone usage accounted for 51% (graphic below) of internet usage and passed desktop usage as the primary source for the first time ever..and if your site isn’t mobile-friendly, people don’t want to take the time to have to zoom in to navigate and click.

Thanks to the growth of social media usage, people now are used to scrolling more on their phones then clicking around on sites. So having more information on your homepage to engage  potential customer(s) interest is more critical than it used to be just a few years ago. To me, if you can’t answer these 4 simple questions on your homepage then you have to revisit your design:

  • What is the business?
  • What service(s)/product(s) do you provide?
  • What makes your business different?
  • How can someone get in touch with you?

If you can answer those 4 simple questions without a person ever needing to leave your home page, then you are off on the right foot. Many of the popular news and sports websites are all now transitioning to the “news feed” scrolling format to mimic the popular social media delivery…so it will only grow as Mobile usage continues to increase as the primary method of usage.

So if you are one of the 60% plus of businesses that don’t have a site that is easy to read/navigate on a mobile device, it is time for an update.Even more importantly, don’t spend money on digital/internet marketing until your site is mobile-friendly….otherwise you are really missing out on the best opportunity to convert. We design all of our sites on visually dynamic, responsive formats to ensure your site is easy to navigate on any device.
